The everyday work life of covid

Ever since the beginning of 2020, life as we know it has changed due to covid 19. But was this change for the better or for the worse? At first thought, many people would say for the worst which is true but there are also positives that can be brought out. “25% of U.S. adults say they or someone in their household was laid off or lost their job because of the coronavirus outbreak, with 15% saying this happened to them personally.” This data, from an article made by Kim Parker on Pew Research Center.org, shows how much jobs have already been affected but. like said before, this is a good and bad situation.

Starting off with the positives. Covid has given many people a lot more free time which will allow them to explore hobbies and other career paths. This is very much important because according to the World Economic Forum, 22% of people in the US aren’t happy with their jobs.  They go through high school, through college, just to end up at a job they don’t enjoy at all. Given all this new free time, they could find better jobs that suit them or a hobby that could lead into other jobs they would enjoy more. Many people have already started to use social media to help them start new careers on websites such as twitch, youtube, and other sites that are less restrictive. Twitch, a website that allows users to livestream games or other activities, has helped many people, even before covid, out of a job they didn’t like and now they’re successful and enjoy what they do. A great example of this would be one of the biggest streamers XQC. Before he started streaming on twitch, he used to work as a janitor and as a paper delivery boy. Both jobs he didn’t like that much but now he had his life change drastically for the better. Another site. Tiktok, a popular app that people use to watch skits, has also helped teenagers find jobs or earn money. Now instead of worrying about the future, they have gained enough money to do what they want.

Now of course, everything isn’t without its negatives. If one were to lose their job, it would be difficult to pay for rent, groceries, and other necessities. Not only that, finding a new job would be difficult even on social media. As much as it has helped many, it does depend on luck as it might take years before someone might make enough money to dedicate their time to it.. A large number of people just don’t make it big and would have to find any job they can. And if they do make it big, there are many risks to it. Many social media influencers, especially the women, have encountered stalkers, fans going to their houses, and paparazzi. Even if they have lots of money, it’s difficult for some to feel safe in their own home. Another popular twitch streamer Sweet Anita, has been dealing with a stalker recently that had threatened to kill her several times.

Covid has affected jobs globally, especially on social media. It has it’s pros and cons and can change a person’s life drastically.
